In this collection, Jason Parent gathers nineteen devilish tales (six never before published) that plunge the reader headfirst into a whirlpool of nightmares, each more terrifying than the last. From high up on the hills to far below the surface, from lush forest to barren desert to deepest sea to blackest space, a monstrous pilgrimage awaits those who travel these pages that blends horror, science fiction, and, at times, humor, in a way that will not leave visitors unscathed. The reader will journey alongside a wickedly diverse set of protagonists, making one thing abundantly clear: no matter who you are or where you may be, the darkness can and will find you.

  • A castaway finds a terrible strength to survive, while another finds strength in thoughts of revenge.
  • A desperate father turns to the supernatural as a means to be with his daughter.
  • A group of American soldiers finds there are worse things than insurgents beneath the mountains of Afghanistan.
  • A priest resists an unholy temptation from a strangely disfigured ward.
  • An astronaut discovers that even in the emptiness of space, something will hear her scream.

Horrifying and hauntingly perverse, Parent’s collection invites you to delve into deeper and darker places with every tale. How deep into the darkness will you go?

      PRAISE FOR JASON PARENT

“One of the most versatile and engaging writers today, Parent demonstrates his willingness to unnerve his readers with his newest collection, Down in the Deep, Dark Places. This one doesn’t let up one bit!”
      — Steve Stred, 2X Splatterpunk-Nominated author of Mastodon, Father of Lies & Churn the Soil

“Horror at sea. Death in a rainforest. Subterranean vampires in Afghanistan. There is something for everyone in Down in the Deep, Dark Places. Jason Parent’s writing is hypnotic, pulling you into each unique tale right up to the twisted end. A masterful writer. You’re in for a dark treat with this collection of terrifying short stories.”
      — Jeremy Bates, author of Suicide Forest

“Down In The Deep, Dark Places by Jason Parent hooks you in with the first story. It’s a collection of horrible fates, some more disturbing than others. The book will leave you breathless by the end. A few of my favorites include: Eleanor, Agon, Scan For Life, and a Boy and His Dog. Such a great horror collection!”
      — Author Jonathan Tripp

“This collection of chilling short stories shows that horror lurks everywhere: at sea and in the desert; in broad daylight and in dark caverns; in the form of gods and monsters, vampires and zombies, and all-too-human beings. Read them with the lights on.”
      — Kim H., Proofreader, Red Adept Editing

“Immersive and eye-opening. Parent’s unique prose and cutting dialogue are both just as rotten as they are refreshing.”
      — Author Aron Beauregard

“Jason Parent’s new collection of stories Down in the Deep Dark Places, touched on all of my core fears and loves in horror. It was as if the author wrote the stories with me in mind. I am usually not a short story fan. I feel like in many collections the stories are very similar to each other, maybe a common theme. This is not the case with Jason’s collections. Each of the stories is unique and different. This has always been a selling point for me with Jason Parent. He writes in so many styles and genre, whether it is subterranean, ocean, ghost or monsters, he writes in a way that sucks me in. While I loved all of the stories in the book, a few really stuck out to me. Glimmer is just an amazing ghost story that really pushes the limits of how far would you go for your child. The struggles that poor Ed experienced with his corgi in Violet hit very close to home on many levels and the imagery and detail Jason’s uses describing the ocean in Agon is some of the best writing Jason has ever done. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves good writing and great story telling.”
      — Frank Spinney

“Awesome short story collection! The author, Jason Parent brought together some twisted horror throughout all these stories!”
      — Book Nook Retreat
